This well-known City restaurant, next to the Bank of England, has a loyal following for its food, but it is also a fine venue for a wedding reception for anything from 60 to 200 people seated with plenty of space for a dance floor too. The venue can also accommodate standing wedding receptions for up to 400 guests for those struggling to refine their guest list!
Whilst the venue itself does not have a licence there is no shortage of churches and registry offices in the vicinity and thanks to its enviable location, and at the weekends the Square Mile will virtually be your playground without the customary hustle and bustle of city workers!
Gather your guests in the recently refurbished 1776 restaurant for drinks and canapés before moving into the Brasserie to eat under 1 Lombard Street's high ceilings and famous dome, the Piestro Agostini cupola. As you would expect, the food is a big draw – the twelve set menus are well thought out and offer excellent value, showcasing the Modern European style of food for which the restaurant has become renowned. After a selection of substantial canapés that could include seared scallops with black pudding and roasted cauliflower purée; and baby Cumberland sausages with mustard mash and onion gravy guests will be invited to tuck into the three course meal of your choosing. This could include the likes of garlic snails with pancetta in a potato basket with a garlic and veal jus, followed by caramelised black cod with steamed vegetables and a ginger and coriander salad, and a chocolate fudge dessert with apricot compote and milk ice cream. All of the menus include coffee and a selection of petits fours afterwards.
A late night licence is available, which will be welcome news for the night owls who will no doubt congregate in the bar post-reception before partying the night away on the dance floor.
