About De Morgan House

Bloomsbury’s Grade II-listed De Morgan House, situated on Russell Square, is home to the London Mathematical Society and offers four versatile meeting rooms, a garden area and space for breakouts and catering. In addition to this, there is a professional and friendly team on hand to help with serving food, configure layout, organise equipment and assist with guest arrival.

The largest indoor space is the Hardy Room, with doors connecting it to the attractive garden. Quiet and bright, this is a versatile room that can be set up in a range of configurations – it also has direct access to the catering area. Food is provided by green-leaning Eden Caterers, who provide a sustainable catering service using seasonal, British ingredients.

Other rooms work well for reasonably priced away days, product launches, press conferences, meetings and receptions. The Cayley Room contains the latest AV kit and wi-fi throughout making it a great spot for business meetings and presentations.

Elsewhere, the Burnside Room is ideal as a reception room for big dos, but also functions as a small meeting room. Handily, it has a connecting door to the Sylvester Room, making it possible to hire both rooms in conjunction for larger events.

The breakout and catering area is a pleasant space that seats 20 people, or 35 for a reception, with round tables providing social seating as well as access to the garden.

De Morgan House offers competitive venue hire and Day Delegate Rates – the various prices are available on request. As the building serves as a prestigious hub for UK mathematics, all mathematical charities get 40% on room hire, whereas not-for-profit organisations can get a 20% discount.

Its central location means there are excellent transport links (we’re talking a three-minute walk from Russell Square station and a 10-minute one from Holborn).

LMS/IMA Joint Meeting 2024: Mathematics for the Environment

20 Sep 2024

The LMS is delighted to announce the 2024 LMS/IMA Joint Meeting on 'Mathematics for the Environment'.

Our environment is a complex, ever-evolving system of diverse physical processes operating and interacting at varying scales in both space and time. Analysing and quantifying these processes not only reveals important insights into the world around us but enables us to better assess the impacts of human activities, climate change, and biodiversity loss, essential for developing sustainable practices and protecting our planet. The mathematics involved in environmental research spans numerous branches, providing crucial tools such as methods for handling and analysing large multifaceted datasets, mathematical models for complex dynamical systems, and algorithms for efficient optimisation and simulation. The aim of this meeting is to bring together experts from a broad range of mathematical disciplines to highlight current research developments within this important area, and to share knowledge of how mathematics is used to enhance our understanding of the environment and address environmental challenges.

We welcome all who are interested to attend this event, with registration open both to LMS/IMA Members and to non-members.
