SquareMeal Review of The Bull Steak Expert

Bronze Award

Readers are already warming to this ‘great, cosy steakhouse’ – a newcomer to meat-heavy Bloomsbury scene that is getting top reviews for its knowledgeable service and terrific food. The ‘expert’ in question is main man Daniel Veron, who has been in the business of butchering and grilling pampas-reared beef for five decades. His menu majors in ‘cooked to perfection’ steaks – rump, rib-eye, fillet and sirloin, served individually or as a mighty quartet on one plate. He-man ‘parrilladas’ (mixed grills) are enough for two, and the kitchen also sends out international specials ranging from beef milanese topped with a fried egg to chicken suprême steeped in whisky and lemon. Start with empanadas, salmon tiradito with guacamole or aubergine escabèche, and round off with chocolate tart or passion fruit mousse. To drink, there are some beefy Argentinian numbers among the list of international tipples.

Lovely food, great service

Such incredible steaks and just the loveliest people running this place. A great and memorable evening. We will be back! Thank you!

I've never had a bad meal at The Bull Steak Expert, a hidden gem in a quietish area but some of the best steak's around - easily as good cuts of meat as at Hawksmoor or Goodman but with a traditional Argentinian twist - the chupitas are amazing.

All round excellence
I and three coleagues/friends had a very long and boozy lunch here. We were sat downstairs which seemed more spacious than upstairs, though with three large, mostly male groups (including us!) it did get quite loud. The food was outstanding - all of us had different cuts of steak and each was done perfectly as ordered. Wine list was slightly pricey but we had an Argentinian Malbec blend for around £50 which was superb and went very well with the steaks. Service was friendly and professional, and the whole experience was delightful.

Great place for lunch
Very similar menu and decor to a well-known chain of Argentinian steakhouses, but better value and with a little more soul. The quality of the ingredients is high and the grill chef knows what he is doing. Service is friendly and, importantly, efficient (little waiting time from ordering food to its arrival) which makes it a great place to go for lunch.

Outstanding steaks!
Went to Bull Steak Expert for the first time and loved it! Good to find an independent restaurant doing well. Place was busy all the time we were there. The meat was outstanding. Service was great – informal and attentive. My only grip was that the extra gamba I ordered with the steak were not great value for money. I ordered two and was disappointed with their size. I would have done better to go with the half lobster. It won't put us off from returning though.

Fantastic meat
Lomo at it's best cooked with great knowledge to perfection. Humito as a side is a must. Only Argentine wine at the list could be boring but to me this adds to make it really genuine. If possible look for a table at the entrance avoid being placed in the basement

In London for the weekend, this lovely restaurant was walking distance from our hotel and a really excellent find. Apparently it's only been open a few weeks so I recommend you visit soon – it's going to be very popular! We were fortunate enough to be there during “Malbec Week” which included tasting the Malbec wines on the list and enlightening information about them from Louise (all three Malbecs were delicious). The steaks were fantastic, cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth with lovely flavour. There are other meats on the menu but if you love steaks this is the place to eat. The chef certainly is a “steak expert” in every way. Can't recommend it highly enough – a charming restaurant with knowledgeable friendly staff, great food and wines (yes and other drinks too!). Next time we're in London we'll be back, and will be recommending The Bull to our friends as well.

We found this great cosy steak house in London by chance – and feel lucky we took the right turns on our walk. It was a great treat – everything from the service, the ambience, the knowledge of the staff and the food. And since we didn't know the argentinian wines on the wine list, we were treated to a small wine tasting and infomation about the agentinian wines. If you enjoy great food and are in London visit the Bull – its well worth it. We will be back next time Berit
