Conceived as a modern interpretation of the traditional Italian trattoria, Tortello blends classic techniques with contemporary refinement, focusing on seasonality and craftsmanship.
Located within the Royal Lancaster London hotel, overlooking the Italian Gardens of Hyde Park, Tortello offers access both through the hotel and via its own private street entrance. The separate entrance gives the space the feel of an independent neighbourhood restaurant despite its grand setting.
A craft-driven kitchen shapes the experience, led by Chef Giuseppe, who champions regional Italian cooking and the art of hand-rolled pasta. The kitchen works with specialist Italian mills for its flours, uses exclusive golden-yolk eggs produced for the restaurant, and sources ingredients from artisan farmers committed to traditional methods.
The menu centres on pasta and heritage Italian dishes, including Tortello di Zucca, made with Delica pumpkin matured for the restaurant by a dedicated farmer in Veneto, served with brown butter, Modena balsamic and toasted Piedmont hazelnuts. Other dishes include Beef Shin & Chianti Tortello, featuring slow-cooked ragù folded into fresh egg pasta; Seafood Calamarata with langoustine tomato sauce, Scottish clams, Dorset mussels and king prawns; and Pici with Mussels & Cavolo Nero, combining rustic pasta with aglio e olio and cavolo nero purée.
Interiors follow the restaurant’s emphasis on thoughtful craftsmanship. Features include a hand-painted vineyard mural by a London artist, a walkway lined with olive trees and aromatic herbs, and a pistachio-green 1960s Fiat 500 offering a playful nod to Italian culture. The 80-cover dining room and terrace facing Hyde Park provide a warm, elegant setting suited to both hotel guests and London diners.
