Here is the seaside dream fulfilled. A whitewashed converted cafe sits high above Whitsand Bay with knock-out panoramic views for miles. By night the Eddystone Lighthouse twinkles far out at sea. The decor is clean & elegant. And the seafood is superb, with scallops, mussels, turbot, halibut & langoustines coming as fresh as you like from local fishing boats out of Looe. Matthew Corner has distilled his West Country haute cuisine experience at Whitechapel Manor & the Well House into something deceptively simple & uncluttered. He's a dab hand all round, from braised oxtail to chocolate pithivier & homemade ice creams, but fish is the real standout. If they're on, order skate wings with crisp Bayonne ham on crushed potato or the best turbot with salsify & vermouth beurre blanc you'll taste in England. Prices are between very reasonable & incredibly reasonable. Note: this restaurant closes during the first two weeks of November.
