With a history that reaches back to 1480, The Talbot Inn has plenty of old worldly charm that mixes well with a more modern elegance. Situated in the lovely village of Mells, The Talbot Inn lies in the heart of Somerset's breathtaking countryside, just 20 minutes from the much loved city of Bath. The bar stocks traditional local ales and world-class wines, with bartenders skilled to craft classic cocktails and delicious softs.
To begin on a cold day, try the warming roasted red pepper soup, with a Glastonbury twanger toastie, or in the warmer months, enjoy an Italian burrata with pomegranate, toasted hazelnuts and pickled red onion. There's also a starter of tempura soft shell crab with carrot and fennel salad and parsley emulsion, and a Talbot charcuterie with salami, chorizo, prosciutto, cheese and char-grilled sourdough. Pub grub mains include the cider battered Brixham fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas, a bowl of moules mariniere with cream, garlic, shallots, parsley and plenty of chips, and the chicken Caesar salad with parmesan, baby gem, anchovies and croutons. Other mains include the whole Brixham plaice with lemon and sun blushed tomato butter, sea herbs and new potatoes, and a Stokes Marsh Farm rump steak with peppercorn sauce, salad and chips.
Make sure you don't skip pudding, with something for everyone on the menu. There's a black forest chocolate nemesis with forest fruit compote and creme fraiche, a deliciously soft saffron poached pear with cardamom cake, maple cream and candied walnuts, and warm apricot bread and butter pudding paired with raisin puree and vanilla ice cream. For cheese lovers, The Talbot Inn is the place to be, thanks to a section on the menu dedicated to creamy and satisfying cheddars, ash-coated goats cheese, and soft and creamy Solstice washed in Somerset cider brandy.
