The Sanderson hotel is currently closed but due to reopen in 2022

The restaurant at this Berners Street hotel hasn’t gained such a reputation as a hip hang-out as the bar has, but it’s still worth a look. The room and the menu have an international feel (in a good way). Start with crispy pig's head with burnt apple puree and move on to a seriously good beef fillet and a side of triple-cooked chips. It may not be original, but it takes a confident chef to serve this sort of food in such a high-end restaurant, and the quality of the cooking and ingredients don’t let it down. Those looking for wackiness should instead head for the afternoon tea, where English tradition has been given a makeover by the Mad Hatter. Expect the unexpected – marshmallow mushrooms tasting of strawberries and cream, a mocha chessboard gateau and an adorable cinnamon, apple and peach “Drink Me” potion.

Going mad for Mad Hatter....
Afternoon tea will never be the same again, and nor should it be any different!! Mad hatter afternoon tea, first entertains your mind with little quirky riddles to welcome you for an adventurous afternoon. Menu was delivered inside a ‘Alice in wonderland’ book, with a range of interesting teas that will sure to tingle your taste palates. Afternoon tea itself is a selection of creative short eats, where the fascination of the creations, is worth the value alone. Each bite, was a fizz whizz adventure in my mouth, from candy popping lollies, drink me portions with coconuts and pears and little carrot patches of sweets. Adventure for all ages from young to small, from book worm to fashionistas, wont be disappointment. I think I had more fun at my very own mad hatter afternoon tea, than I did watching the movie.. Shhhhh.. that's our secret now!!

I celebrated my birthday here and we took the offer, which made perfect sense. Perhaps, they should give you a normal size martini as the one that is given is too small and hardly any alcohol. Food was fine for 4 people dinning, but the menu is a bit restrictive. Once served, food was nice, service was ok, the atmosphere was very special, had a great time.

Suka was fun and had a fantastic atmosphere. There was a mouth watering selection of cocktails. The food was amazing and delicious, we especially loved the Char Kway Teow noodles and the Kapitan Kambing, a nice hot lamb and coconut curry. Be careful of the condiments…one is extremely spicy! I would definitely go back to Suka we both loved it and the menu is easy to read and explains what everything is.

Personally I think the Sanderson has never quite got it right with its in-house restaurant. Whereas the St Martin's Lane hotel has Asia de Cuba which is still packed years on, the Sanderson never seems to be quite sure as to what it should be doing. The biggest selling point of the restaurant is the outside terrace – heated and covered in the winter which is a bonus but the interior section of the restaurant seems quite simple and plain. The menu is based around a sharing concept similar to Asia de Cuba but the portions fail to live up to the price. The dishes are very tasty and if you are not on a budget or if being entertained then knock yourself out but otherwise you may find the size of the bill (and the 15% service charge on top) a little bit of a shock. The Purple and Long Bars add a little more interest to the venue. Perhaps not a place to take Russian clients given the translation of the name.
