Queen of Hoxton

Billed as a ‘bar, club, art collective’, the Queen of Hoxton is also a great East End night out. Welcome to every design student’s fantasy world, complete with window etchings, graffiti and an edgy discotheque downstairs – not forgetting the legendary summer roof garden and bar (now with an all-weather cover). This year’s fun in the urban adventure playground will include BBQs, screenings of cult movie classics, a ‘headphone disco’ and a Sunday ‘sunbathers club’ compete with paddling pools and hot tubs. Otherwise, play table football in the main bar, catch some stand-up comedy or one of the diverse live bands, and place you orders for garlic king prawns, calamari or fajita platters. The staff will even rustle up cocktails for the Mixmag and Dazed posse – perhaps a CoCo caipirinha or pear crumble.

The Queen of Hoxton is a nightclub and bar in Shoreditch, famous for lively club nights and a sizable roof terrace, which shows off a new theme every year.

This well-known bar, just a few minutes walk from Shoreditch High Street station, opened in 2009. It is named after Sarah Lane - a 19th century theatre manager who trailblazed a path for drag theatre in the 19th century and who was dubbed the ‘Queen of Hoxton’. Through vibrant parties, drag bottomless brunches and more, The Queen of Hoxton celebrates her legacy.

Few bars in London boast a rooftop like this - not only is it huge, it self transforms every year in line with a new seasonal theme. A large heated yurt provides lots of indoor space, but groups often like to hang out al fresco and enjoy impressive views out over the city, with fairy lights up to illuminate the way when the sun goes down. Food and drink is specially crafted to meet the theme, which could be anything from Alice in Winterland to Apres Ski.

The ground floor and rooftop have separate menus on offer - the former is drinks-only, serving up signature cocktails as well as a compact wine list and lots of draught beers. Up on the roof you’ll find a new set of cocktails (at the time of writing that includes the Polar Espresso Martini as well as a Bloody Negroni made with blood orange gin and agave) as well as more beers, hot drinks, and wines.

On the food front, The Queen of Hoxton serves up double stacked chicken schnitzel burgers, juicy beef burgers with melted Swiss cheese and caramelised onions, as well as hot dogs, vegan mac ‘n’ cheese bites and more.

The bar also hosts a popular drag bottomless brunch every Saturday daytime, serving bottomless cocktails and fizz alongside bottomless fried chicken and waffles.
