Overlooking Lusty Glaze beach, The Pickled Chef celebrates the best of Cornwall’s coastline with seasonal menus inspired by local produce from land and sea. Led by head chef Richard Mason, the restaurant combines the freshest local seafood, carefully sourced meats and vibrant seasonal ingredients in a setting that makes the most of its spectacular sea views. It’s an ideal choice for special occasions, romantic meals and relaxed Sunday lunches by the coast.
The restaurant’s interiors draw the eye towards a spectacular feature window framing panoramic views across the beautiful sandy bay. A billowing sail-style canopy ceiling creates the feeling of an elegant beach pavilion, while suspended driftwood lighting, festoon lights, natural timber finishes and abundant greenery reinforce the coastal feel. Cosy corners with deep blue panelling, seaside-inspired artwork and chalkboard details offer a more intimate setting.
Menus change throughout the year to showcase the best available ingredients, with small plates including spicy chicken wings, bruschetta and fish cakes sitting alongside generous sharing options such as seafood platters piled with line-caught fish, prawns, mussels and scallops. Main courses are divided into dishes from the land, the sea and the garden, offering everything from king prawn and scallop curry to saffron vegetable curry and crispy southern fried chicken burgers.
Sundays bring traditional roast options including Cornish rump steak, roast chicken and vegan Wellington, accompanied by Yorkshire puddings, seasonal vegetables and homemade gravy, with additional sides such as pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes. Desserts include comforting favourites such as bread and butter pudding with custard, apple crumble with ice cream and cheesecake served with Cornish clotted cream.
The drinks menu features a carefully selected range of fine wines and craft cocktails designed to complement the seasonal food menus, as well as soft drink, teas and coffees.
