About

The Oak and Olive is a charming historic village pub in Whatlington, East Sussex, serving British favourites with subtle Mediterranean influences. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and traditional Sunday roasts, it’s a popular choice for family meals, birthday celebrations, romantic dinners and relaxed get-togethers with friends. Seasonal ingredients and a varied all-day menu ensure there’s something to suit every occasion, whether you’re stopping by for breakfast or settling in for an evening meal.

Original beams, whitewashed brickwork and warm terracotta walls create a cosy, characterful setting, complemented by roaring log burners and soft lighting. A second dining space feels lighter and brighter, with sage green walls, exposed timbers and traditional wooden pew seating offering a different atmosphere during the day. The pub’s unusual 80-foot interior well provides a distinctive talking point, while the covered outdoor terrace offers a comfortable spot for alfresco dining overlooking the surrounding village.

Breakfast includes classics such as eggs Benedict, Royale and Florentine, alongside cooked breakfasts, omelettes and avocado on toast, served with a wide selection of teas, coffees, herbal infusions, matcha lattes and iced coffees. Later in the day, the menu moves on to nibbles including oysters, halloumi fries, arancini and deep-fried French brie before larger dishes such as homemade lasagne, Italian sausages with mash and seasonal vegetables, pie of the day, slow-roast pork belly and beer-battered haddock and chips.

Steaks and burgers feature alongside stone-baked pizzas including Margherita and diavola, while a dedicated children’s menu caters for younger diners. Sundays centre around traditional roasts, with pork belly, roast chicken, lamb and a vegan nut roast all served with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and homemade gravy.

The drinks menu includes wines, beers, cocktails and soft drinks, alongside an extensive range of teas and coffees served throughout the day, giving diners plenty of choice to accompany everything from breakfast through to Sunday lunch.
