The Kentish Hare sits on Bidborough Ridge in the picturesque village of Bidborough, just outside Tunbridge Wells. Opened in 2014 by chef brothers Chris and James Tanner, it occupies a traditional pub setting with a polished, contemporary feel, offering a relaxed take on modern gastropub dining.
The food focuses on fresh, seasonal ingredients, with the kitchen sourcing local meats, vegetables and quality fish through its network of suppliers. The dinner menu changes daily, while lunch is served from Wednesday to Saturday with a set menu, and there’s a two- or three-course set menu for Sunday lunch. A bar menu is also available across the dining areas, alongside a good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Inside, the restaurant combines the character of a traditional pub with stylish, contemporary surroundings. There are several spaces for eating and drinking, including the main dining areas and Library bar, while the garden provides an appealing spot for eating and drinking outdoors in warmer weather. The Kentish Hare also caters for group bookings, private hire and outdoor events.
Walk-ins are welcome, although reservations are advised during busy periods. Groups of more than six are asked to contact the restaurant directly, and dogs are welcome in the Library bar and main garden.
