About

The Ivy Asia, Guildford is the first standalone Asian-inspired concept outside of London, adding to its existing sister restaurants in Chelsea and St Pauls. Situated in Tunsgate Quarter and set across two striking floors, the restaurant and bar is open seven days a week with an all-day offering, serving everything from lunch to dinner and weekend brunch. Serving theatrical drinks and cocktails alongside a menu of Asian-inspired dishes, diners can expect to experience the same over-the-top theatrics that have become well-known to the brand.

Guests can step inside to its synonymous luminous pink onyx flooring, as well as a gold panelled pagoda and sweeping staircase leading to the main restaurant. Fitted with striking artwork, luxurious Asian fabrics, colourful wallpapers and antiques, the first floor is designed to be an elegant yet vibrant space to dine and enjoy. Alongside the main restaurant and bar, guests are also invited to take a seat at a sushi bar seating four, and featuring a majestic cherry blossom tree.   Overseeing the kitchen is Executive Chef Simon Gregory and Head Chef Sagar Rene, with dishes taking inspiration from cuisines spanning the continent of Asia. Many of the dishes at the Guildford venture mirror those also available at its sister restaurants The Ivy Asia, St Paul’s and The Ivy Asia, Chelsea, with highlights including tuna tartare, avocado and citrus ponzu, sesame crusted prawn dumplings, and an extensive sushi and sashimi selection, including wagyu beef tataki, salmon sashimi, spiced yuzu and avocado salsa, and yellowtail three ways. Vegetarian and plant-based options include avocado crispy tofu, with a lime and ginger dressing, and roasted aubergine miso and masago arare.

Accompanying the menu is a delicious selection of cocktails, designed to transport guests via exotic flavours and colourful garnishes, as well as sakes, wines, Champagnes and Jing speciality Asian teas.

Extremely disappointing. I took my family of 5 for a family birthday last Sunday. We were told how good the restaurant was. Our experience was very poor. We arrived and waited at the front desk for 5 minutes. A man appeared, asked our name, then he spent 2 minutes looking for it and then said I don’t know anything and we had to wait for someone else. A minute later a lady appeared who found the booking. When I told her about her colleague she said don’t worry he is a waiter and he knows nothing. Not a good start. At the table we had menus thrown at us. We ordered. The food was thrown at us, food was nothing special. The waiter then came and started clearing plates before all of us had finished eating. When I asked for the plates to be left he looked at me as if I was crazy. Also our glasses were taken when they still had drinks in them. We ordered deserts which came. A waiter then came over with a very small plate of cake with a candle on and said” whose birthday is it?” We said it was my wife’s and he literally plonked the plate down not even near her. I had told the restaurant in advance that it was my wife’s birthday as well as mentioning it when we arrived at the table. When the bill came I was just amazed at how much it was and they had included a sizeable amount for service. Not deserved at all. As it was a special occasion I said nothing however on reflection I am very annoyed. I am amazed when I read the other reviews. This was not our experience. The staff were rude and arrogant and the food is nothing special and over priced. We won’t ever go back.
