About

In 1559, Bermondsey’s burghers raised their tankards here to celebrate the coronation of Elizabeth I. But despite its half-timbered Tudor facade, the current pub on this historic site is a whippersnapper rebuilt soon after the Blitz. The Gregorian reopened under new ownership in summer 2015, following a refurbishment that mixes Edwardian civic chambers and Ye Olde Curiosity Shop knick-knackery with 1950s Festival of Britain furniture. On the pumps, London Pride appears alongside Butcombe Bitter and some decent Scottish and continental brews. You’ll also find a dozen modest wines under £20, plus spritzes, Pimm’s and cocktails to sip in the beer garden. Soon to be installed is a kitchen that will provide modern British pub grub, Sunday roasts and homemade traditional bar snacks. Until then, pop-up street-food residencies will supply hot dogs, burgers, sliders, gnocchi and the like. Live music, weekly events and family entertainment are also planned.
