Fable is a modern British restaurant located within five-star hotel Crazy Bear Town, a former 15th century coaching inn in the centre of Beaconsfield. The townhouse hotel is a buzzy, multifaceted venue encompassing boutique rooms, a downstairs restaurant, hidden pool, karaoke room and more. When it comes to dining in Beaconsfield, in-house restaurant Fable offers a contemporary British dining experience, combining high quality produce and familiar flavours with an unexpected twist.
The kitchen is led by head chef and author Peter Gray who previously held the position of executive chef at Heston Blumenthal’s The Hinds Head. The restaurant itself is modern, warm and unpretentious, decorated with candles, white tablecloths and soft cushions. Guests can dine from an expansive a la carte menu, which kicks off with a range of indulgent snacks such as devilled eggs with brown crab, cheddar rarebit with pickled walnut and steak tartare with truffle mayonnaise. From the starters list, expect classic-with-a-twist dishes spanning charred hispi cabbage with miso butter, ham hock terrine with lardo and pistachio and grilled octopus with chorizo jam.
For the main event, Fable offers an excellent mix of grilled meats, fresh fish dishes and vegetable-forward mains. Highlights include charred leeks with Cafe de Paris butter and crispy hen’s egg, as well as the honey-glazed pumpkin and herb gnocchi. Steak-lovers can enjoy a Tomahawk to share or a 7oz dry-aged bavette with peppercorn sauce.
Dessert is no afterthought: the 'puddings' menu features Basque cheesecake with spiced plums, pistachio sponge with white chocolate mousse, and apple tarte tatin with cinnamon ice cream. Prefer a savoury finish? Opt for a British cheese selection complete with quince, honey and crackers.
With a fantastic menu full of heavy hitters and familiar favourites, Fable at Crazy Bear brings quality cooking to a stylish hotel setting.
