Just moments from Brighton seafront, The Crazy Goose is a modern pub and dining room suited to almost any occasion, from casual drinks to long, lively dinners. Tucked just off West Street near Middle Street, it’s perfectly placed for those arriving from the station or wandering in after a day by the sea.
The Crazy Goose is part of Black Rock Group, also known for Brighton restaurants such as The Coal Shed, The Salt Room, Burnt Orange and Tutto. The pub takes up the site that used to belong to the original Coal Shed, and is named in honour of founder Raz Helalat’s father-in-law, Don Camilleri.
Set across two floors, the downstairs bar serves classic cocktails like Negronis and Tommy’s Margaritas, while upstairs a more vibrant dining room invites lingering lunches and relaxed evenings. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and full of personality, as you’d expect from one of the UK’s most energetic seaside towns.
The menu blends British and European influences. Snacks might include British rock oysters or beetroot and goat’s cheese tart, while starters range from Sussex lamb tartare with Padrón peppers and tonnato to king prawn vol-au-vent with Marie Rose sauce. Mains continue the crowd-pleasing theme, from lemon sole with caper brown butter and sea asparagus to Delmonico ribeye with peppercorn sauce and triple-cooked chips. A rotisserie half chicken with roasted garlic aioli keeps things comfortably classic.
Sundays are reserved for roasts with all the trimmings, while desserts deliver exactly what you want: chocolate and hazelnut profiteroles, blood orange and rhubarb trifle, and a well-executed crème brûlée. Drinks include well-poured Guinness, rotating craft beers and an accessible wine list.
