4 of us had dinner at the Bull. Limited choice menu. Asparagus starter £12 - West End Prices?
Mains expensive and presentation uninspiring, quality very average. Overcharged on final bill. However, staff competent and friendly.
Suffice to say that when we expressed our disappointment the understanding manageress waived the entire bill. All credit to her but pity they didn't get it right.

We've been to this location many times over the years in its' various incarnations, including this one as a micro brewery. There's a good mix of people coming in just for a pint or two as well as those getting together for dinner, and it's a relaxed sort of place where women can just come in for a glass of wine and read the paper.
The menu seems to have lost the American slant, and features a number of dishes with beer as an ingredient, e.g raspberry beer syrup on a salad, and pale ale braised rabbit. There were several interesting things we'd like to try.
It was a Thursday evening so we didn't want a full 3 course dinner, and we had a good duck dish with rather chewy spelt, and a great steak. They were very accommodating about not having chips and bringing side orders of vegetables instead. Service was friendly and attentive.
We'll definitely be back to try more of their interesting dishes and beers.

My friend had been to the Bull before (he is a Highgate local) and couldn't stop raving about it. I ended up having such a fantastic experience that I felt the need to write up a review- although I have never done so before :)
Apparently this pub has only been reopened under new management for about 2 months. I was really impressed with just how established and comfortable they looked in this space. I was excited to learn that they brew their own beer on site (3 so far, I think), since I don't think that is so common here in London- but more so in the US. I believe they also are working on brewing a new pumpkin beer for Halloween!
I had heard that big ale-lovers had been drawn to this pub for their passion for beer and I can see why. They offer more beers than I have seen in other pubs, including really interesting options from across the pond. The staff were surprisingly knowledgeable about beer and even offered pairings with our dishes (also offered on the menu). I thought that was brilliant!
Speaking of the staff… we were welcomed with a big warm smile, which carried on throughout their service that night. The timing was always spot-on and they were quite flexible and patient with us (my partner had a few food allergies to work around…).
Now to the food… I will definitely be coming back to The Bull and a big attraction for me is the FOOD! It took me about 15 mins to figure out what I wanted since there were so many interesting options. I later learned that the chef is American and has been working here in London with big chefs like Gordon Ramsey and Galvin! His creations were a perfect illustration of his experience and expertise. I honestly couldn't hype up his food enough. From what we had tried on our table, I would highly recommend the sweet breads and chicken livers, the pork belly, the beer-braised beef and the pineapple jalapeño pulled pork. The portions are generous and the prices reasonable, so we felt it was good value for our money. Although I would probably put a little less pork on the plate…although, come to think of it, I did finish it all!
We will definitely be coming again and are considering hosting our holiday party here (they have a great private function room upstairs). Well done, Bull! A great start, we are excited to return and see what else you have to offer! It is so refreshing to have a new and original drinking/eating destination in Highgate. Whether you want a casual drink with friends after work or a nice dinner date… I think I've found the place :)
