About

The Bear Inn is a quintessential 16th-century country pub nestled on the High Street in North Moreton. The menu showcases classic British pub favourites, led by the seasons and local produce.

Formerly known as the Bear at Home, this historic coaching inn retains its original timber framing, inglenook fireplace and characterful beamed ceilings, having been sympathetically refurbished in recent years under the stewardship of the team behind Five Little Pigs in Wallingford. Open from Tuesday evening through to Sunday evening (lunch and dinner mid-week and lunch-only on Sundays) the pub also hosts quiz and folk-music nights on Tuesday. The pub has wheelchair-friendly facilities and room for private events. The interior is warm and welcoming, with a proper fireplace and a mix of relaxed sofa seating in the bar and a more formal dining area at the rear. Outside, the spacious beer garden adjoins the village cricket pitch and features diverse seating: raised decking, wooden picnic tables and sheltered hay-bale seating, delightful for al fresco summer dining.

As a friendly village local and recognised CAMRA pub of the year, The Bear boasts three changing real ales, typically including at least one from a local microbrewery. Alongside ale, they also have a curated wine list, craft beers and seasonal ciders. The menu features classic British pub food prepared with seasonal flair, honouring trusted local suppliers. There’s simple, hearty starters, such as parsnip & apple soup, cured trout with soda bread, posh sausage rolls or Welsh rarebit. For mains there’s fish pie, root vegetable casserole, The Bear burger or a succulent sirloin steak. Sunday roasts are a highlight, praised for divine Yorkshire puddings while puddings lean to comforting British classics, including the Tudor-revived ‘Hollygog’ steamed pudding .

Overall, The Bear Inn offers hearty, well-executed pub cuisine in a genuine village-community setting.

Love the Bear for food and atmosphere, a winner everytime. Perhaps its time to drop their booking service though as they accept bookings even when the venue is closed.

Asking for a review when Ive asked to be removed from mailing list, I think thats against GDPR too.
