The Barn at Berryfields is a local favourite in Birmingham's idyllic Solihull, combining a 33-bedroom boutique hotel, on-site farm, private function room and acclaimed food menu.
Set near the NEC and Birmingham Airport, this independent restaurant holds two AA Rosettes, as well as offering a more casual café, pizzeria, bar, bakery, butchery, garden and tepee area. The restaurant itself overlooks stunning surrounding countryside and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.
The Barn's farm-to-table ethos and focus on self-sufficiency is a real highlight, serving home-reared pork and beef, fruit and vegetables from the two-acre Kitchen Garden, and handmade breads and sweet treats from the on-site bakery. Impressively, the family has farmed at Berryfields for four generations, with Suffolk Red pigs and pedigree grass-fed Hereford cattle reared on site, while lamb and poultry are sourced from within five miles.
That provenance shows up clearly on the menu. Starters include Moroccan-spiced pork kofta with flatbread, cumin houmous and pickled plum salsa, pan-seared scallops with wakame and sweetcorn velouté, glazed lamb shoulder with celeriac purée and gooseberry compote, and warm Barn Bakery breads with tomato pesto.
Mains follow the same commitment to seasonality. You might try sage-and-onion rolled pork belly with miso-charred hispi cabbage, a chicken, mushroom and leek pie, seabass with vegetables and sauce vierge, and venison haunch with rosti, beetroot and blackberry jus. While, more casual options include tonic-battered haddock and chips, a smashed burger made with two Hereford beef patties, or a plant-based lentil burger. Steak lovers are particularly well catered for, with Hereford sirloin, ribeye and fillet served with chunky chips, Portobello mushrooms and roasted vine tomatoes.
And, if dinner does turn into a longer stay, the adjoining Barn Hotel has 33 modern bedrooms, including two suites, so nobody needs to rush home afterwards.
