The Antelope in Tooting is a true old boozer given new life. Originally founded in the 1800s by Barclays (once known for beer-brewing, now a global bank), it’s since been revived to serve its local community. Set on Mitcham Road, The Antelope is a long time favoruite pub thanks to its historic interiors, broad range of drinks, hearty Sunday roasts, regular match day screenings, and classic modern pub cooking.
Inside, The Antelope boasts soaring timber-framed ceilings, a muted pistachio green colour palette, a traditional wood-panelled bar, and several different spaces to perch for a drink or settle in for long, lazy Sunday roasts and catch-ups with friends. It also hosts regular events, including monthly open mix nights, a weekly pub quiz, and comedy evenings.
The Antelope menu, meanwhile, opens with nibbles like padron peppers with smoked salad and sumac, the signature black pudding Scotch egg with Bloody Mary ketchup, and gordal olives. It continues with small plate dishes like pork belly bites with a treacle BBQ sauce, mussels in a cider and garlic sauce, and ox cheek croquettes with aioli and parmesan.
For the main course, specials might include baked Camember with cornichons and chutney, or lamb stew with rosemary dumplings. More regular main dishes may offer up smoked haddock and salmon fishcakes, corn-fed chicken breast with triple-cooked chips and sriracha butter, and delica pumpkin risotto with ricotta and chestnut.
On Sundays, meanwhile, you’ll find a generous selection of roast meats and vegetarian dishes. All come with roast potatoes, seasonal veg, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, with meats sourced from HG Walter. From chicken with pork nd sage stuffing to roast pork belly, butternut squash Wellington, and classic rump cap. There’s also the option to go for the chef's roast to try a few different options.
