Call The Angel on The Bridge to make a booking on:
These days it’s perched at the edge of Henley Bridge looking out over the Regatta finishing post, but this tall and skinny 14th-century inn was once literally ‘on’ the bridge – judging by the
original foundations found in its cellar. Don’t expect modish mixology or esoteric local ales here – The Angel’s USP is its treasured riverside location, which is reckoned to be Henley’s finest.
Assorted Brakspear beers are always well kept, the wine list is modest, and shorts are entirely as expected. The food is a shade more adventurous, with dishes such as pork fillet on tomato salad or
duck confit with red cabbage cooked well enough to fill a hole. Reservations for Regatta week are vastly over-subscribed, so get in early – if the prospect of competitive rowing isn’t enough
incentive, an outdoor mojito bar and resident DJs surely will be.

Tired and run down pub that only survives due to its amazing location. The whole place needs a scrub, some paint and some plantings.
The rudeness of the waitress/manageress ruined our lunch. We ordered at the bar and said we'd have 2 soups to start and also gave our choices of 2 mains. After a while I thought I'd ask at the bar about the soup as it had been a long wait to heat some soup on a quiet autumn day with few customers. I was chastised for enquiring on the progress. Our main meals came a short while after but we hadn't had our soup still. The rude manageress told me the food would all come together. We explained we wanted our soup first as we had ordered it and as it is listed on their own menu under the big headline of STARTERS. She could not have been more accusative that the fault was ours and did not believe we had ordered a starter as a starter and for all she knew we could have been four guests so that's why it all came at once. Odd given we only ordered 2 drinks when we arrived and more bizarre given we said "we'll start with two soups". Bizarre given said soup was on the STARTER menu. Would never go back - the attitude of the staff was appalling. The food supremely average by pub grub standards. I never write reviews but felt compelled given the treatment we received.
