Situated on the ground floor of White City House, The Allis is an all-day bar and eatery from Soho House Group, which is likely to appeal to under 35 creatives and media types as a working lunch or pre-drinking spot. The interior provides a nostalgic nod to the building’s famous previous occupant, the BBC’s Television Centre. 70s-style table lamps and a large artwork of the infamous BBC test card featuring a young girl create a fun, retro feel.
Food wise, the menu brims with fresh, seasonal ingredients. On our visit, we were most impressed by the snack and sharing plates: take the California-inspired smashed avocado, which consisted of a bowl of creamy, fresh avocado stuffed full of raw vegetables and surrounded by taro chips. For dessert, we experienced a unique take on a childhood classic, a Jammie Dodger ice cream sandwich with densely packed vanilla ice cream wedged between crumbly biscuits. We could have easily visited the venue just for cocktails, which stood out more than the food offering, and took a particular shine to The Allis Cobbler; laced with pear vodka, it’s a fun and refreshing take on an old American classic.
