Thatched House is a traditional Hammersmith pub that's been brought into the 21st-century with thoughtful interiors, a focus on premium service and a fantastic food menu that pays homage to pub grub classics with flair. The building's history is impressive: going back almost 300 years, its pretty facade shows off its heritage with period features like stained glass windows and high ceilings. Inside, the vibe is cosy with wooden flooring, exposed brick walls and well-chosen decor, like layered rugs and soft lighting.
Whether you fancy stopping by for a drink or to settle in for all day dining, the space lends itself to both. The main menu goes from day to night easily and is served from Monday to Saturday, with Sundays reserved for a hearty roast - but more on that later. You could start by diving into some bites for the table, from exclusive Taggiasca olives from Italy, to halloumi fries with a sweet chilli dip.
The starter selection is joyfully plentiful, so we'd suggest ordering a whole mix of dishes for everyone to try, such as Conwy mussels in white wine, garlic and fresh cream, lightly-coated sprats with tartare sauce and a lemon wedge, and grilled capricorn goat cheese with beetroot, pine nuts and a balsamic glaze. For mains, if you fancy a proper pub dinner, the homemade steak and ale pie or beer battered fish and chips are hard to beat. Or, for something more experimental, there's a whole seabream cooked with garlic and lemon butter, or perhaps the butternut Malabar curry. Hankering for something sweet? You can't say fairer than a 'big chocolate cake slice'.
Thatched House is known for its Sunday roast dinners, too, so be sure to try the Irish sirloin or Welsh leg of lamb. There's also herby chicken or pork belly, if that's more your scene. Vegetarians are catered for with a veggie wellington and all roasts are, of course, served with trimmings like roast and mash potatoes, roasted carrots and parsnips, fresh greens, brazed red cabbage and Yorkshire puddings.
