Located in the heart of Southwark, Terry's Cafe is a renowned breakfast spot, famous for its classic fry-ups. Terry, of Terry's Cafe, came from a modest family of cooks, as his Dad was a chef in the British Army and his Mum was a pastry cook. Growing up around so much great food in South London, Terry was inspired. During the war, Terry was evacuated to Folkstone, and following that, he set up a small holding of 200 pigs, got a job at Smithfield meat market and learnt the trade of butchery. Terry had a long career as a butcher, but then decided it was time for a change, so that he could spend more time with his family. He opened Terry's Cafe in 1982 and the family have been keeping it running strong ever since.
At breakfast, the works includes a cumberland sausage, fried egg, bacon, bubble and squeak, black pudding, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms. There are also vegan options, slightly smaller plates, a build your own option and a breakfast burger made using 100% British beef. Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast, eggs royale and homemade pancakes with raspberry sauce, fresh berries, banana and mint with a side of Canadian maple syrup are all also on the menu. Terry's twists are somewhat of a delicacy, and the flavour pairings are sensational. There's your classic ham and cheese croissant with dijon mustard, one with brie, bacon and caramelised onion, and sweet options filled with fresh strawberries and Nutella, and another with Lotus Biscoff cream.
The lunch menu is subject to availability and includes all the famous favourites like Terry's bangers and creamy mash with caramelised onions and lashings of proper gravy, a homemade bread and butter pudding and chef's soup of the day. There's also a beef burger, ham with two eggs and chips, and a gammon steak with eggs, peas, chips and pineapple. If you missed breakfast but were really hoping for a fry up, you're in luck with the all day breakfast menu.
