Call Swan on the Green to make a booking on:
This country pub can trace its lineage back almost 500 years, and started life as a row of agricultural cottages before taking on the persona of a local alehouse. Bucolic gentility certainly sums up the ambience these days, thanks to an open-plan layout that has been decorated in a modern but engaging way, while the location – close to the church and overlooking a huge expanse of village green – is quite a draw, especially in summer. But it’s the astonishing range of beers from the microbrewery behind the pub that really pulls the punters. Under the Swan Ales label, half a dozen brews are tapped out from the central bar: Swan Mild, Ginger Swan, Cygnet, Trumpeter Best, Fuggles and Bewick. Customers also appreciate the good-value modern pub grub, cooked in an unfussy manner.
