Tucked just outside of Westerham, Shampan at the Spinning Wheel brings an authentic Indian dining experience to the heart of Kent, boasting delicious cuisine, fine wines, and a destination spot for your next meal. Part of the Shampan group, Shampan at the Spinning Wheel was the group's most ambitious culinary venture, opening a 300-seat restaurant, back in 2011, which has since become the flagship of the brand.
Guests can take a seat in the Caraway Room or the Tamarind Room, boasting a vibrant and lively ambiance, complemented by stunning Italian furniture and tasteful decor. Intricate lattice screens provide a touch of seclusion, enhancing the overall dining experience. At the heart of the restaurant you’ll find the main bar, where guests can enjoy a pre- or post-dinner tipple.
The main menu kicks off with some delicious appetisers. Choose from batter fried cauliflower and broccoli coated in gram flour and spices, classic papadums and chutneys, onion bhajis and king scallops dusted with garlic and crushed spices. There’s also an extensive grills and kebabs section, complete with options such as a pickled paneer and pepper medley with tomato coulis, freshwater king prawns with garlic and dill leaves, or a masala lamb seekh kebab gilafi.
Main courses include marinated baby aubergines stir-fried with slow cooked onions and tomatoes, a seared sea bass with Bengali do piyaza sauce, and a delicious lamb leg baked in its juices, served with fried onion, lamb mince and a spiced sauce.
The menu also offers a variety of retro British-Indian classics, for those looking to keep it simple with options including korma, rogan josh, and madras curries. Each of these are available in vegetable, chicken, tiger prawns and Kentish lamb options, with accompaniments that span pilau, coconut or mushroom rice, alongside saaf paneer, bombay aloo and vegetable jhalfrezi.
