On aptly named Fish Street by the harbour, this welcoming upstairs restaurant continues to win over tourists and locals alike. Bare tables, piped music and a retro-style marble-topped bar set the scene, with a mini disco ball glittering from the ceiling – although seafood from the Cornish boats is the real focus here. A separate ‘oysters and shells’ menu offers the freshest crustacea including St Ives crab and lobster, while the carte delivers the likes of scallops with black pudding and spiced apple purée, ahead of hake fillet with sautéed new potatoes, crispy kale and salsa verde or a stew of white fish, king prawns and mussels in a lemon and parsley broth. Meat eaters get roast chicken and fillet steak, desserts could feature clever riffs on apple crumble or strawberries and cream, and there’s a fine selection of Cornish cheeses too.
