Sambrook’s Brewery isn’t just a spot for beer lovers, it’s the kind of laid-back, community-rooted venue that makes a perfect backdrop for relaxed catch-ups with friends and family. Founded in 2008 by Duncan Sambrook and David Welsh after a particularly inspiring trip to the Great British Beer Festival, it’s since become a local institution known for great brews, warm hospitality and a genuine sense of place.
The space itself is huge and versatile - perfect whether you're planning a weekend gathering, a birthday celebration or just an impromptu get-together. The taproom is buzzing but never overwhelming, with plenty of room to find a corner or stretch out with a crowd. For more structured occasions, the venue has options too: a private function room for up to 50 guests, a large mezzanine for up to 120, or the entire brewery space which can comfortably accommodate over 400.
Food-wise, this isn’t your average brewery fare. Sambrook’s pizza game is seriously strong, with Italian head chef Antonio crafting each one using fine ingredients and years of experience. Go classic with a Margherita or level up with the Pazza Pepperoni, finished with hot honey and chives. For sharing, there are cheese boards loaded with gorgonzola, smoked provola and honey; burrata with bruschetta; and even a dessert calzone stuffed with Nutella and ricotta.
Of course, it’s all about the beer too. With 15 rotating taps, you’re spoilt for choice but tasting flights are available if you fancy sampling a few. There’s also a strong selection of wines, cocktails and low/no-alcohol options, so everyone’s covered. It’s also a place that cares: Sambrook’s has built deep community ties over the years, partnering with local charities and working with the Shaw Trust to offer training and employment opportunities to those with disabilities. It’s sustainable too, with spent grains going to local farms and carbon recaptured from brewing reused across the business.
In short, Sambrook’s is a feel-good place to eat, drink and celebrate - whether you’re there for the beer, the pizza, or just the company.
