Following his recent acquisition of a new site in Winchester, TV chef and empire builder Rick Stein has also beefed up his Cornish portfolio with a new restaurant in Porthleven. Occupying what was the Clay Quay Eating House by the harbourside, the venue now has an open-plan look with some new paintings on the walls plus a menu showcasing dishes from his world travels. There are plenty of distinctive Stein specialities on offer, from sharing plates of mussels with black beans, garlic and ginger or grilled scallops with hazelnut and coriander butter to mains such as the iconic Singapore chilli crab, Indonesian seafood curry or char-grilled whole plaice with fennel and Pernod mayonnaise. Meat eaters and veggies also get a look-in – think rib-eye steak with bone-marrow gravy or linguine with porcini, garlic and truffles. The whole place is family-friendly, and great views are guaranteed.
