You may think that a winery doesn't go hand in hand with somewhere to sit down and feast, and usually, perhaps, you'd be right. But a winery with a twist in East London is here to change the game. Enter – Renegade Urban Winery. This UK winery sells bottles with unique labels, each with the eyes of a different person who lives in the UK. In fact, many of the faces are Londoners.
When it comes to the food on offer at Renegade, there are plenty of small plates and nibbles that pair well with the bottles on offer. The restaurant is named Gaff, and is at the helm of Carl Tel.
Pick at nocellara olives, house focaccia with Proud Mary olive oil and cauliflower cheese fritters, before small plates of whipped cod roe with house hot sauce and crispbread and beetroot cured trout with buttermilk and dill are served to the table.
Choose delicious meat skewers from char siu pork and grilled lamb, and pair with crispy potato bites in aioli, parmesan fries with truffle mayo, or grilled tenderstem with house ricotta and chilli.
There are also larger plates on the menu, including a roasted aubergine and feta baba ghanoush, and tomato and chorizo chilli orecchiette. Round off a fantastic time at Renegade with the chocolate namalaka with feulletine, or the boozy affogato made with vanilla ice cream, espresso and Golden Rum.
