Located by the river in Battersea, with great vistas and easy access to the London Heliport, Red Pocket promises a splash of moneyed Chinese sophistication and glamour with its red, black and gold tones, chinoiserie screens, Buddha sculptures and Tibetan cabinets. Guests are also afforded views of the open kitchen, where chef/restaurant manager Weng Kong Wong (ex-Hakkasan) will oversee an ambitious menu of traditional and contemporary Chinese food – from signature luxuries such as Peking duck with caviar or lobster with foie-gras sauce to a diverse selection of dim sum including steamed xiao long bao ‘in seven flavours’. Tasting menus will offer a cook’s tour of the Orient, and drinkers can look forward to innovative Asian-themed cocktails such as dragon (a potent mix of Patrón Tequila and triple sec with dragon fruit, pineapple, lime and ginger syrup). High teas 3-6pm.

Red Pocket is a new restaurant at Battersea area and I only came across it through browsing Timeout London. The waitress told us that it was only opened late in March. Food was really good especially the crispy chicken with sweet sake sauce, grilled beef (Genghis Khan Style), grilled chilean sea bass and the curry leaf soft shell crab for the starter. I was slightly suspicious when I saw the presentation of the grilled beef and after tasting the sea bass. It sort of reminded me of Hakkasan style of cooking. Apparently, the waitress told us that the head chef at Red Pocket was a former chef from Hakkasan (Sous or Head … that I was not sure of). They do serve good mojitos which is good for this weather but other cocktails aren't so great and I think they should work on it. My gin martini was too diluted for my taste. I think those living in Chelsea might want to give it a try as it is not too far of to get to if you are looking to have very good Chinese food. Problem I had was telling the cab driver that I wanted to go to Hotel Verta. Cab driver was not sure and others may not know where it is. Best to tell them Battersea Heliport :) As this review is written during the British Summer, I think it would be better to dine outside if possible, found the rooms inside to be quite warm.
