About

This West End flagship of the indie cinema chain has a roomy all-day café and first-floor loft bar – with acres of smart 1950s-style sofas and chairs. Both floors offer wines on a try-before-you-buy basis: £28 gets classy ‘vegan’ Sancerre blanc; £20, a ballsy Sicilian Nero d’Avola; and there’s Aussie Moscato Lite for cal-counters. Meantime and Brooklyn are the best of the beers on tap, but we also like the G&Ts: made with Sipsmith, cucumber and citrus, perhaps, or rosemary and thyme-fragranced Plymouth. Downstairs, order snacks of toasted sandwiches, salads, cheese and charcuterie boards, cakes, juices and coffees. The upstairs dining menu might typically start with chicken liver pâté, soup, or mackerel fishcakes with chilli raita, followed by mains of courgette, mint and pea risotto (£9); apricot-glazed jerk chicken with plantain chips and slaw; or steak and chips. If you’re tempted by desserts, look no further than the tarts and stickies.
