Opened in 2020 as a humble street food trailer in Sheffield, Pellizco has quickly earned a reputation as one of the city's most exciting dining destinations. Now based on Dyson Place, the restaurant has picked up a string of accolades and attracted widespread acclaim for its thoughtful take on regional Mexican cooking. Drawing inspiration from cities, states and chefs across Mexico, the menu celebrates traditional flavours while making the most of seasonal British produce.
Warm, inviting and convivial, the dining room has lots of rustic charm thanks to the terracotta walls and softly glowing woven pendant lamps. Large windows flood the room with natural light by day and frame views of the outdoor terrace beyond, whilst exposed brick details and an earthy palette give Pellizco plenty of handcrafted character to match the personality of the food.
The menu kicks off with antojitos, meaning 'little cravings' - dishes designed for sharing and exploration. Expect to order a few plates per person, alongside snacks and sides for the table. To start, there’s freshly made guacamole with lime and tostadas, pig's head nuggets with wild garlic mayo, red prawn ceviche with mango aguachile and tostadas. Potatoes with salsa roja and spring onion crema offer a cooling alternative.
Tacos are a highlight, whether filled with barbecue pork ribeye and salsa verde, or beef shin, brisket and freshly made queso Oaxaca. This is the area to really get stuck in, and there's something for everyone, including a killer fish taco made with coley in tempura batter and chipotle mayo, and a fried halloumi, pineapple and chipotle taco that is sure to win over the veggies. To finish, choose between churros dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with dark chocolate sauce, or a scoop of house-made ice cream or sorbet.
Pellizco also offers a substantial cocktail list, with mezcal and tequila cocktails being the highlight. There are also a number of tequilas available by the shot and double shot, as well as a tequila flight for adventurous spirit enthusiasts.
