Orton’s Brasserie is an ode to Joe Orton, a famous Leicester born playwright best known for his scandalous plays such as ‘Entertaining Mr Sloane’ and ‘Loot’. In Orton’s later life, he received notoriety during the infamous trial dubbed ‘The Gorilla and the Rose’, for his work in defacing book covers. ‘The Gorilla and the Rose’ trials are the origins for Orton’s Brasserie branding.
Leicester is a unique city as it possesses tremendous cultural diversity unlike anywhere in the East Midlands region. Plus it’s the home town for all the core team. The cultural quarter is an up and coming area steeped in the history of the British performing arts. The building is located in Orton’s Square and will be directly behind the statue of Joe Orton being erected later this year.
