Oakham is a sweet market town in the East Midlands. Wonderfully positioned to some bigger cities, Oakham is 25 miles outside of both Leicester and Nottingham, and just under that amount to Peterborough. Oakham usually ranks pretty well in terms of the lifestyle it can offer its residents, and there is much to do in this small town. Visit Oakham Castle, which is a historic building known for its collection of massive horseshoes, and regarded as one of the best examples of domestic Norman architecture in the country. Rutland County Museum is in the old Riding School, and opened in 1969, showcasing a collection of objects that are relatable to local, rural and agricultural life, along with social history and archaeology.
