The Nutters in question are not only chef-about-town Andrew, but also Rodney and Jean, who keep the books in check at their son’s comfortable restaurant overlooking Rochdale. Housed in an 18th-century manor surrounded by six acres of “fabulous” grounds, it offers a plethora of delights from “lovely” afternoon tea to Sunday lunch and a ‘gourmet’ offer. Andrew’s cooking reflects his frequent travels, but he’s also keen on local ingredients – witness a signature dish of crispy Bury black pudding wontons with ‘confetti of vegetables’. Otherwise, expect anything from a warm tart of seared scallops, wilted spinach and ceps to Goosnargh chicken ‘two ways’ (a mini Kiev and a roulade wrapped in Parma ham). Nutters is a slick operation, but reasonable prices and a sense of fun helps to keep things tight: how about a DIY caramel crème brûlée with English fudge snaps or caramelised lime tart with a Grey Goose vodka and ginger beer sorbet?  “Never disappointed”, says a fan.

The food was amazing, beautifully presented, and all dietary requirements at our table were taken into consideration. The service was exquisite, very attentive, but not overbearing - and it was a treat to meet Chef Andrew Nutter's mum, who greets customers and chats to them at their tables!
