In honour of its 60th anniversary, Pizza Express has announced it will be rolling back prices to offer guests four classic pizzas for literally pennies.
For one hour only, the beloved pizza chain will be returning to its 1965 prices, allowing diners to tuck into a few of its most iconic pizzas with prices starting as low as 33p. The deal will be available on Thursday 27 March from 5-6pm, and is set to include the Margherita (33p), the American (45p), La Reine (48p) and the American Hot (50p).
Gluten-free, vegan and dairy-free alternatives are also included at no extra cost, and diners will be able to upgrade to a Romana base for an extra £1.95.
So, what’s the catch? Well, there isn't one! Diners don't need to sign up in advance and there are no promo codes required to snag the discounts. Simply order between 5pm and 6pm in one of its nationwide restaurants to make the most of the one-off deal. Pretty cool, no?
Pizza Express first opened on Wardour Street back in 1965, and now boasts nearly 360 pizzerias across the country. These prices will be available at all UK stores, so there's plenty of places to snag the deal. However, it is only applicable to sit-down dining, and will not include takeaway alternatives.
Paula Mackenzie, CEO at PizzaExpress, said: ‘In 1965 we brought proper pizza to the UK, and what better way to mark those 60 years than with 60 minutes of our original pizzas at their original prices.’
This is only part of the celebration, however, with a month-long Birthday Set Menu, which allows diners to order a starter and any classic pizza for just £19.65. The deal will run from 3-28 March, including dough balls, calamari and mozzarella sticks to start, with the American, Fiorentina, Sloppy Giuseppe and more, to follow.
Recent years have seen a trend towards 'rollback pricing' with both the Rick Stein Group and St John Restaurant offering similar deals to celebrate their respective 50th and 30th anniversaries.
In other news, Gregg Wallace's MasterChef replacement has been announced.
