Navateet is a modern Indian restaurant located in Brentwood, Essex. It is headed by celebrated chef Steve Gomes, known for his Cardiff restaurant Moksh and as a contestant on The Great British Menu.
Launched in May 2025, the 130-cover venue is situated in the newly developed Kings Chase centre, approximately a ten-minute walk from Brentwood railway station. Navateet joins this newly revitalised dining quarter, surrounded by boutiques, cafés and independent food spots, while Brentwood itself is a bustling commuter town in Essex, with a growing reputation for dining.
The restaurant’s name stands for ‘new and old’, reflecting its innovative approach to Indian cuisine. Navateet delivers a fine-dining experience that takes guests on a culinary journey through time, exploring Mughal-era, British-Raj and present-day British-Indian flavours. Its sleek, contemporary interior features warm lighting, elegant wooden furnishings and a central open kitchen that provides a theatrical backdrop to the dining experience.
The à-la-carte menu spans a sophisticated range of dishes. Under starters and small plates, guests can choose from paneer Akbari tikka, juicy mint-marinated lamb chops, Darjeeling momos, and sweet potato Bengali chops. Main courses include Goan venison vindaloo, bamboo-cooked chicken changrezi with quail’s eggs, and a Lucknow-style oxtail slow-cooked in a clay pot. The desserts nod to fusion, with treats such as tikka-masala macarons and a spiced Eton Mess, combining summer fruits and meringue.
Open seven days a week, Navateet serves dinner in a refined casual environment, appealing to both weekday diners and weekend diners. A central bar stocks curated cocktails, wines and spirits chosen to complement the menu’s bold flavours. Reservations are highly recommended, particularly for Friday and Saturday evenings.
Situated in Kings Chase, Navateet offers a sophisticated destination for modern-Indian cuisine in an accessible Essex setting, combining culinary ambition with local convenience.
