MrDeanes Bistro Bar & Social sits in the heart of Belfast, just around the corner from the Grand Opera House, offering a modern bistro menu, lively atmosphere, and contemporary cooking. It's a confident shift from chef Michael Deane’s earlier fine-dining ventures. The space previously housed his Michelin-starred restaurant Eipic and seafood-focused Love Fish, but has since been remodelled into a more accessible, modern bistro. With interiors designed for both comfort and style, the venue includes a long bar connecting two smart dining areas and a skylit room that brings in natural light. Mr Deanes Social, a separate space within the premises, is used for private hire and live music events, adding a lively social element to the offering.
The menu caters to lunch and dinner crowds, with a selection of bistro-style dishes rooted in quality produce and global influences. Starters include seasonal soup, crab and celeriac on toast, and beef tartare. Mains range from Moroccan spiced chicken and prawn Thai curry to confit duck à l’orange and Korean-style pork belly with vermicelli noodles. Traditional steak and fish options are also available, alongside vegetarian dishes. Desserts such as chocolate delice with salted popcorn, lemon panna cotta and sticky toffee pudding round off the meal.
The drinks list is notably broad, with a carefully selected wine offering spanning Old and New World regions. A full cocktail menu sits alongside local and international beers, ciders and a variety of alcohol-free options.
Michael Deane, long regarded as one of Northern Ireland’s leading chefs, has curated this new concept to match the city’s evolving tastes. In February 2025, Mr Deanes received a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, recognising the bistro’s balance of quality and value. Positioned close to Belfast’s city centre, it draws both casual diners and theatre-goers seeking vibrant food in a smart, unpretentious setting.
