The award-winning Mimi’s Bakehouse is one of Edinburgh’s best-loved bakehouses, favoured by tourists and locals alike. With its sweet treats and belly-busting brunches, it’s the ideal location for celebrations and catch-ups for people of any age.
Mimi’s aim is to give people a ‘hug when they walk through the door’, and its welcoming vibrant yet calm atmosphere does just that. The flagship Leith store is elegant, with pastel colours, striped awnings and a foliage display inviting customers inside, as well as offering outdoor seating. Inside you’ll find a classic tearoom decorated with floral prints, bunting and even more pastel colours, giving the space a familiar and homey feel.
Mimi’s breakfasts and brunches are legendary, served until noon and all-day respectively. Breakfast options include a full Scottish with all meats sourced from local suppliers, a delicious shakshuka with the option to add some Spanish chorizo, and a full vegan breakfast. There is also a selection of breakfast rolls which, unlike main dishes, are served all day.
The all-day brunch menu features all of our old favourites; French toast, crumpet eggs benedict, crispy potato hash with hollandaise sauce, and the classic avocado toast. Lunch is an array of sandwiches bursting with international ingredients like mortadella ham, milano salami and falafel with chilli jam.
Be sure to leave enough room for the star of the show, the cakes! Mimi’s motto is ‘It’s all about the cake’, so these are definitely not to be missed. If you fancy a sugar overload, head on over for some afternoon tea or the intriguing ‘beforenoon’ tea option, both of which feature scones, something sweet and something savoury accompanied by tea or coffee sourced from local suppliers. Alternatively, sharing boxes and afternoon tea at home boxes are available if you fancy enjoying Mimi’s treats right in your own home.
Fun fact: Mimi’s Bakehouse was used as a filming location in the Netflix film ‘The Princess Switch’, which saw Vanessa Hudgens’ character opening a dessert shop called ‘Sweets and Treats.’
