Mignonette is a small restaurant that opened in the autumn of 2024, with just 25 covers. Glen Toromeni, John McClements and son, James, are the partners behind Mignonette, which landed a place in the Michelin Guide within three months of opening. The menu focuses on seasonality, affordability and no pretension, and the team works with small producers across the UK and France to source sustainable produce of the highest quality, with fresh fruit and vegetables sourced from the home counties.
For dinner, order a Kir Royale aperitif and some home baked bread and cultured butter to begin, and get stuck into the long list of starters. Try red mullet fillet with Mediterranean prawn mousse and anchovy, tomato saffron aioli, the soupe de poisson with rouille, croutons and gruyere, and globe artichoke bottom with celeriac walnut apple salad and fresh winter truffle. A grilled Orkney scallop brochette with skate rillettes, pickled shimeji, harissa and chorizo aioli is a big hit, as is the drunken chicken foie gras terrine, poached in Shaoxing yellow wine with duck fat brioche. Main dishes may include the veal chop with caramelised roscoff onion, bordelaise sauce and pomme puree, a divine entrecote steak au poivre with pont neuf potatoes, and saddle of hare with foie gras slowly braised in red wine, with a truffle pomme puree.
If you're hanging around for dessert, try the hot madeleine with sea salt chocolate sauce, orange burnt Basque cheesecake or iced nougatine and praline served with fresh mango. Doesn't that sound tasty! A more traditional dessert of caramelised pear and thyme tarte tatin with calvados cream features on the menu, too, along with a cheese plate.
