Leila Lily’s is a bar and restaurant in Newcastle’s bustling city centre, part of the Grey Street Hotel. That it finds its home as part of the hotel, certainly does mean that it is any less unique or stand out. The venue is beautiful and refined, carefully decorated with sweeping flowers, garlands of green, and vast chandeliers. Elegant and sophisticated, it’s an Instagrammable haven.
It's not just style over substance at Leila Lily’s, though. The menu at the restaurant is varied and fun, a selection of ‘re-imagined British food’ with something for every occasion. Starters are contemporary and tasty: teriyaki chicken skewers, salt and pepper cauliflower, and ham hock and cheese croquettes, for instance.
For the ‘Main Event’, as the restaurant affectionately names its main courses, things are a little more traditional. You’ll find the likes of red wine braised beef with truffled mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables, and red wine sauce, or pan-fried fillet of salmon with an open lasagne of mussels and sea herbs, herb oil, and champagne sauce. Leila Lily’s is also home to a Mibrasa Charcoal oven – one of the only ovens of its kind in the city – which is used to chargrill its range of steaks and skewers, giving a particularly smoky, barbeque taste to dishes.
Leila Lily’s isn’t just a spot for lunch or dinner, in fact you can book on for an exciting afternoon tea with a selection of sandwiches and sweet treats – including a vegetarian and vegan version.
There’s also the option for private dining, if you’re looking to level up your meal. There are various spaces on offer for hire, including a private bar, which can hold up to 25 guests, and the Eva Rose Garden space, which can hold up to 50.
When it comes to dining at Leila Lily’s, booking in advance is recommended, but walk ins will be accepted if there is sufficient space.
