In Salford’s emerging Greengate neighbourhood, Kallos Cafe & Wine Bar brings a slice of the Mediterranean to Manchester with its relaxed charm, thoughtful hospitality and vibrant flavours. Founded by seasoned hospitality duo Ioanna Antoniou and Ivan Milchev, Kallos is inspired by the ancient Greek word for beauty - an ethos that runs through every detail of the experience.
The interiors are a blend of vintage and contemporary, with whitewashed walls, stone-style flooring, natural wood accents and subtle blue touches that evoke the breezy elegance of a Mykonos café. There’s a small outdoor terrace for sunny days, while inside, the space is warm and welcoming, equally suited to a morning coffee or a lingering evening glass of wine.
The menu is a celebration of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, starting with brunch favourites like spanakopita, tiropita, baked eggs and sourdough topped with seasonal ingredients. House-made pita breads are filled with slow-cooked meats and vegetables, while coffee comes courtesy of Yorkshire-based roasters Dark Woods. As the day shifts into evening, the focus turns to meze - small plates designed for sharing. Highlights include feta wrapped in filo with hot honey, fried saganaki cheese, Dakos salad, and beef cheek stifado with pickled onions. There’s also a rotating selection of tinned seafood, served with warm pita and aioli, offering a nod to coastal snacking traditions.
The wine list is compact but curated, with a focus on Greek varietals like Assyrtiko and Xinomavro, alongside European favourites. Ivan’s background as a sommelier ensures every bottle is chosen with care, while the atmosphere remains laid-back and inclusive. Kallos is more than just a café, it’s a place to connect, unwind and savour the simple pleasures of good food, good wine and good company.
