Jones’ Crumpets is the first permanent cafe from Ian Endfield’s artisan crumpet brand, serving its crumpets straight off the griddle in Notting Hill.
Endfield spent nine months perfecting his recipe before launching the brand with a supper club in his flat in 2017, convinced that the crumpet could be a premium product worthy of a restaurant menu and a base for bolder flavours. Jones’ crumpets went on to stock delis across London and supply restaurants including Ottolenghi’s Rovi, before the brand added nationwide delivery and market stalls.
The pared-back room takes its cues from early-to-mid-20th-century design, with a neutral palette and a large stainless steel counter at its centre. From the counter, you can watch coffee being brewed and crumpets steaming next to a colourful spread of toppings. Quarry tiles and birch joinery soften all that steel, while a mural inspired by German Expressionism and American WPA-era public art runs along the walls.
Four flavours form the foundation of the menu, and every dish can be ordered on any of them: Classic; Double Cheese, made with strong cheddar and parmesan; Cheese & Chive, which adds a hit of chives to the same two cheeses; and Dark Chocolate, with a molten centre of 71% single-origin dark chocolate. The larger plates are built around seasonal, carefully sourced ingredients and include breakfast dishes like crumpets with scrambled or fried eggs, and a signature crumpet burger. For something quicker, the grab-and-go offering pairs crumpets with a rotating selection of toppings made in-house.
Coffee comes from Allpress, backed up by a short list of soft drinks.
