About

A good spot from which to contemplate London’s skyline, Jin Bo Law is a 14th-floor skybar at the Dorsett City Hotel (sister to the Dorsett Shepherd’s Bush). Its narrow west-facing (heated) terrace overlooks the elegant 17th-century spire of St Botolph’s Aldgate. The long gallery bar resembles a Hong Kong take on 1950s Manhattan: all mustard, gold and glossy-grey marbles. Here, the quartet of signature cocktails might fail to inspire drinkers with anything other than vodka in mind. This spirit underpins Nuts and Marsh (with hazelnut liqueur, chocolate and marshmallow), and Peas of Mind, a Sour made with Jinro Soju (South Korea’s take on vodka). We recommend going off-menu or sticking to wines and fizz by the glass. Snacks are limited to nuts, wasabi-spiced mix and olives – although charcuterie and sharing platters are planned in future. With so many great examples to choose from, skybars these days need some extra oomph.

Shame when one employee makes your business looks bad…

What a really disappointing experience…

Turned up needling to waste an hour or two whilst waiting for a train nearby. I was told upon entry that they had a corporate event on later and understood I may need to move tables to accommodate.

I asked three times in the space of an hour if they needed me to move as the space got busier, and to be fair, there was a lovely employee who told me I was fine.

Then out of nowhere, a ginger bearded waiter arrived to tell me my attire didn’t fit their entry requirements and 5 mins later he physically picked up my belongings and told me I had to leave..?!

So rude and unprofessional and not what I was expecting, and to be touching my possessions without my permission is not acceptable behaviour.

I’ve lived my life and the fact I’m not in a suit isn’t because I’ve not spent the last 30yrs wearing one - I’m waiting for a train to the airport to fly back to my home in Southern Spain. If there was an issue with my - what I would have said was smart casual attire - then that should have been explained when I first arrived.

The way I was spoken to was undermining and unacceptable regardless - and not something I would expect from this sort of establishment, hence the fact I chose to spend my money there in the first place.

Hats off to the lovely gentlemen who served me my £75 worth of wine - and as far the ginger bearded gentleman with the purple shirt is concerned - I hope you understand that you can’t speak to people the way you did to me in an establishment like that, or in fact anywhere. A cap and hoodie does not denote someone’s wealth and ability to use the facilities - and I genuinely hope some senior management reads this and makes you feel as shit as you made me feel.

In a positive light, the views are wonderful and the gentleman who helped me when I arrived and the other gentleman with the short mohawk (and the security staff I complained to on the door) were all incredibly professional and helpful.

It’s shit when one employee reflects their inadequacies on the business as whole - and I walked away with a really bad taste in my mouth. What a shame from somewhere that wasn’t even meant to be a memorable part of my week…
