About

OPENS 27 DECEMBER 2019

In the last few years, Instagrammable desserts have become a big deal in London, whether it’s the fluffy soufflé pancakes at Fuwa Fuwa Café in Bloomsbury, or the over the top doughnut creations seen at Dum Dum Donutterie. Now though, make way for your newest sweet-toothed obsession – chimney cakes.

House of Chimney originally opened in doors in the USA, starting out life in California. The bakery and café is the brainchild of Hungarian fashion model Szandra Szabó and chef Omar Lara, with the pair choosing Shaftesbury Avenue for their first London outpost. As the name suggests, the menu here centres round so called chimney cakes, which are traditional Hungarian desserts that typically go by the name of Kürtöskalács.

The chimney nickname comes from the shape of the sweet cakes, which look like hollowed out, ribbed cones and are crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. At House of Chimney, the chimney cakes come in flavours such as cinnamon sugar and coconut, as well as less conventional varieties including Oreo and Fruity Pebbles.

Diners also have the option to order from the list of House of Chimney’s ‘signature creations’, which consists of  chimney cakes that are filled with ice cream and then finished off with an array of decadent toppings that make for prime Instagram fodder. From the list, you can order the likes of an Oreo Overload, which features an Oreo flavoured chimney cake filled with chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream and loaded with Oreo cookie pieces and lashings of chocolate sauce. Fancy something a little more colourful? Opt for the Everyday Birthday Cake, which sees a Fruity Pebbles chimney cake filled with strawberry ice cream, topped with confetti sprinkles, strawberry sauce and a miniature cupcake that’s lit with a candle.

If you want to get creative, there’s also the option to build your own chimney cake, from a selection of sugar-tastic fillings and toppings.
