SquareMeal Review of Greenwood

Bronze Award

Aiming to cover as many bases as possible, newcomer Greenwood has instantly become one of the best sports bars in London, as well as a popular choice for post-work drinks. The sprawling, boisterously buzzing ground floor incorporates a huge central bar, around which all manner of seating options, and even a brow bar radiate. Above, you'll find another bar, five screens for sports as well as an American 8-Ball pool table and two shuffleboard tables. The starring roles on the beer lineup go to Long Arm Brewing Co ales, while G&T aficionados will be in heaven thanks to a lengthy, curated list. As a restaurant, Greenwood’s easily bettered by several of its neighbours and during rowdy evenings, we'd recommend its globe-spanning menu for a convenient refuel or casual business meal, rather than a destination dinner. Approach Greenwood as a supercharged city pub with extra-attentive service and you won't be disappointed.

About

Known as one of London's biggest and most premium sports bars, Greenwood is found directly opposite Victoria Station. The pub is part of the Sport London Pub & Kitchen family, so it's no surprise how much of a haven it is for sports fans. Hoping to catch the weekend's big game? No problem. You'll watch out every moment on HD screens with the roar of the crowd around you - inside or out on the sun soaked terrace during the warmer months. Greenwood is the perfect spot for match days and chilled afternoons.

The bar menu is perfect for those who just want something small to nibble on while kicking back and enjoying the footie. The list includes small bites like rose harissa nuts and wasabi peas, a signature meat platter and vegetarian option. The snacks include loaded nachos, fried buttermilk chicken in peanut satay sauce with lime, and mac and cheese croquettes with parmesan and nduja mayo.

You can choose from 450g, 1kg or 2kg of wings, and then you pick your sauce. Opt for the hot buffalo, Korean gochujang or nude – with plenty of lemon, rosemary and a chilli and herb sour cream. Last but not least on the bar menu are the tacos, with filling options of sticky beef brisket with a chilli honey dressing, spiced pulled pork with Asian slaw, slow cooked tiger prawns with fried noodles, and miso mushroom with fried potatoes.

If you're celebrating, try out one of the pub's delicious cocktails. You'll find all the classics like an Espresso Martini, Moscow Mule and Margarita, along with the team's Mixmaster 2024 cocktails – the Rebecca with Neck Oil Session IPA, Angelos made using Casamigos Blanco tequila and Tyreece which blends Ketel One vodka, peach, ginger, apple and lime.

Awful place and service!!

Terrible experience!! Genuinely awful!! Very poor service, rude and discriminatory, incredibly rude behaviour from someone calling himself the owner of the place ‘David Vilhena’.

Worst customer experience I ever had in my entire life. Can’t believe that such service exists in London. Shame I have to give it one star

It's supposed to be basic, but this is a bit ridiculous
Our new office is basically on top so I wanted to take my team for beers and burgers as a Friday lunchtime treat. Greenwood bills itself as a sports bar, which is largely unintrusive, and really just a large (slightly fancy) pub. However, despite it be a very quiet Friday in January I had to track down one of the many milling staff even to get drinks offered. The menu is basic, bar bites and junk food, largely burger and pizza – but nicer than average. Sadly, the pizza oven was on strike, so half the menu was off for starters. When we finally managed to order, it was a bit slow and then just disappointing. The chicken burger is the greasiest thing I think that I have ever eaten. I know it’s buttermilk FRIED chicken, but the oil was a slick on my plate. Every burger comes with a choice of one of three different types of fries, which actually are nice. However, none of the food was seasoned and there is no chip vinegar! Balsamic yes, malt? No. For chips. With no salt. For £14 a plate I really feel that most people, once they have tried this will head across the plaza to Shake Shack. It’s fine for a drink, but don’t eat there.
