It’s just as well the name says it all, because the tile-hung frontage of this 17th-century pub gives little indication of the knock-out views over a reed-fringed lake from its back garden. Inside, The Globe has been sympathetically remodelled, with bare floorboards, beams & wooden furniture, plus cosy touches such as lamps, mirrors & flower displays in the opened-up bar. Meanwhile, a vibrant red-walled dining room is the setting for a line-up of competent pub grub such as beer-battered haddock with chips & tartare sauce or pork sausages with apple mash & onion gravy, with puds promising chocolate brownie or lemon posset with berries & shortbread. Wines are displayed with price labels around their necks, & there are draught real ales for the beer brigade.
