Fort Augustus is a settlement in the Scottish Highlands, lying just south west of Loch Ness. This beautiful part of Scotland, and was named after one of King George II sons, William Augustus. Fort Augustus has a rich history, with the Siege of Fort Augustus taking place from February to March in 1746, during the Jacobite Rising. This pretty village acts as the base for a lot of people to explore Loch Ness and the Scottish Highlands as a whole, and is a lovely area where Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal join. If you're not a fan of being on the water, you can just enjoy watching the boats sail through, or hop on one yourself and try and find Nessie. This is, after all, a great location for a Loch Ness cruise.
