Nestled in the heart of Sowerby Bridge, Engine Social Dining is a vibrant neighbourhood restaurant offering a globally inspired small plates menu. Set within a sympathetically refurbished stone building, the restaurant combines industrial charm with contemporary design, featuring dark wooden furnishings and an open-plan kitchen centred around a wood-fired oven.
Originally opened in Halifax in the summer of 2018, chef Mark Kemp, formerly of El Gato Negro, and front-of-house manager Wil Akroyd lead the team, bringing a wealth of experience to this neighbourhood venture.
The menu is a fusion of international flavours, cherry-picking ideas from across the globe to create dishes that are totally new, unique and exciting. The sharing plates format allows diners to try a selection of different dishes, and reflects the restaurant's ethos of bringing loved ones together over great food.
Examples of dishes you can expect to try include sobrasada gyozas with makhani sauce, adobo-spiced fire-roasted cauliflower, and crab potato chips with avocado, kohlrabi and miso mayo. While larger plates include slow-braised beef cheek with leek, muscatel, and mustard cream, as well as masala cod curry with lentils and spinach.
Engine Social Dining places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, and many of its plates can be adapted to suit a vegan diet, if requested. Dishes like sweet potato wedges with goat's cheese, figs, chilli, pomegranate, and balsamic showcase the kitchen's creativity and commitment to diverse dietary requirements.
The restaurant is also the proud owner of a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide. Ultimately, Engine is designed to be a relaxed and welcoming space to unwind over innovative food and perhaps a cocktail or two.
