Cometa is a contemporary Mexican seafood restaurant in the heart of Fitzrovia, coming from the dynamic team behind Carousel. Taking over the Charlotte Street Wine Bar site, Cometa shines a spotlight on the finest British day-boat fish and seafood, reimagined through a vibrant Mexican lens.
The name, meaning ‘comet’ in Spanish, reflects the restaurant’s dynamic approach. Expect bold flavours rooted in Mexican tradition, paired with exceptional UK produce from trusted suppliers like Fin & Flounder, Flying Fish and The Sea The Sea. Years of collaborations with acclaimed Mexican chefs have shaped the menu, which is led by Ollie Templeton, José Lizarralde Serralde and Alejandra Juarez - bringing experience from kitchens including Nicos, Meroma and Estela.
The menu takes inspiration from Contramar and the streetside carretas of Ensenada, presented in a brasserie-style format. Begin with raw plates such as ceviches and aguachiles, before moving on to sharing dishes like crab chilpachole rice with brown butter and chive, or grilled lobster with chintextle and smoked butter sauce. Seasonal sides complete the feast, while desserts promise a sweet finish.
Drinks follow the same ethos: expect tepache, homemade aguas frescas and agave-led cocktails, including Cometa’s Spicy Margarita and a Mezcal Old Fashioned.
Designed by Carousel founders Ed and Ollie Templeton, the space is warm and intimate, with oak-topped tables, soft textiles and earthy tones creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
As Ed Templeton explains: 'There’s been a Mexican heartbeat to our kitchen for years. Cometa is our chance to put our own style front and centre.' With its mix of British seafood and Mexican soul, Cometa promises plenty of excitement - perfect for adventurous diners and seafood lovers alike.
